Dr. Fred St Goar is a cardiologist practicing at El Camino Health in Mountain View, CA, and is the Medical Director of the Norma Melchor Heart and Vascular Institute.
Throughout his career Dr. St Goar has been an medical device innovator and entrepreneur. In 1999, he founded Evalve, an early leader in the minimally invasive mitral valve repair space. Evalve’s technology (now Abbott’s), the MitraClip, is the premier percutaneous mitral repair device and has been successfully used in over 200,000 patients in more than 50 countries.
Dr. St Goar is the vice chairman of the board of the Fogarty Innovation where he mentors a variety of start-up endeavors. He continues to work with Fogarty graduate companies including HeartFlow and Alydia Health (now Organon). Dr. St Goar has a passion for supporting young entrepreneurs and takes a special interest in the Institute’s Lefteroff and Ferolyn fellowships. More recently Dr. St Goar has become involved in global health specifically focusing on sub Sarahan Africa where he serves as an adjunct professor at the University of Global Health Equity in Rwanda and is on the clinical advisory team for Village Health Works in Burundi.
Dr. St Goar attended Harvard Medical School and completed his medical and cardiology training at Stanford University where he continues to teach in the Biodesign program.
