Dr. Shirin Towfigh is a Board Certified general surgeon world renown for her expertise in treating hernias and hernia-related complications, especially in females. She is owner and President of the Beverly Hills Hernia Center, a specialty practice that focuses exclusively on the treatment of hernias and hernia-related problems. Her surgical practice has promoted the importance of hernias in women via research, publications and lectures. In 2015, she founded Hexagon Health, Inc., a technology company developed to advancing the category of abdominal wall and pelvic floor health, using a multi-faceted, gender-specific approach. Through her work at Hexagon Health, Dr. Towfigh holds multiple patents in gender-based hernia mesh redesign which were inspired by her experience with mesh complications seen disparately among males and females. She also sponsors the annual Female Factors in Hernia Research Award, which helps promote research and awareness of gender as they pertain to hernia evaluation, repair, and their outcomes. Dr Towfigh received her medical degree from UC San Diego and finished her surgical residency at UCLA.
